Murray said the district’s goal is to create a learning environment in which every student can succeed, and that the additional funding is a crucial piece to making that happen. “The focus on professional development is an investment in our educators, equipping them with the latest tools and techniques to provide high-quality education.” “By investing in academic intervention, we aim to provide targeted support to students who need it most, ensuring that every child has the chance to succeed and excel in their academic journey,” she said. Murray said the additional funding will primarily be used for two purposes: academic intervention and professional development. “It enables us to further commit to our mission of enhancing educational opportunities for all our students and help to fulfill our collective commitment to innovate and improve.” “This increase in resources is a significant boost for the Reading School District,” she said. That effort led to the additional grant money they will now receive. Judy Schwank said she has been working for months to secure more funding for the two districts. Reading received nearly $4.8 million from the initial grants, while Antietam got just over $167,000. Berks districts received just over $10.7 million of that. School districts are allowed to use the funds for 15 different purposes including: creating, maintaining or expanding pre-kindergarten or full-day kindergarten programs providing tutoring reducing class sizes and establishing, maintaining or expanding math and literacy coaching programs.ĭistricts across the state were provided with the grants as part of the state’s annual budget, with a total of $295 million allotted for the program. Ready to Learn Block Grants are designed to support pre-kindergarten and elementary school educational programming. Reading is getting an additional $1 million, while Antietam is getting an extra $500,000. The Reading School District and the Antietam School District have each been awarded additional Ready to Learn Block Grant funding from the state Department of Education. A pair of Berks County school districts are getting some extra funding from the state.
